Tubing down Apple River

I went tubing down the Apple River about 10 years ago.  I was in a program and we took about 15 teenagers.  Has anyone gone lately?  Is it appropriate it for an 11 year old?

I've never done the Apple River thing- I've only heard drunk fest stories regarding it and it does NOT sound appropriate for younger kids.  I'm interested to see if there are better opinions, though!  =)

It is only not good for kids when there is a concert going on. I would go during the week with kids also.

go to Welch if you want to tube with kids...apple river is dirty and a drunkfest worse than mardi gras flashing everywhere... totally not appropriate for an 11 yo.....

I agree with going on a weekday.  Went with DH and a friend lastyear, on  a Sunday I believe, and even though it wasn't very busy, it seemed like everyone else was drunk...very innappropriate for a 11 yo!

I went when I was 18 years old and NO I would not take my kids til they are 16 years old or so. Chicks with their tops off, guys mooning everyone who goes by, Beer cans everywhere. Maybe the time of day and the summer would help.

MamaD,

I'd stay away from it.  We went all the time in the 80's and it was nasty even back then.  Up until a few years ago my older sister and cousin (age 50+) would go for a float during the week and even then they encountered crazy drunks, nakedness and eh hem, intimacy on the water.  Gross.

That is too bad that the Apple River has a reputation it has.    What about other parks, like Wild Mountain that are more geared towards kids and family.

Yep, we went down it a number of years ago and saw a few butts and bubbies!  Lord!  Like I don't have enough butt and bubbies of my own!

I stay away from the Apple River.  It hasn't changed much.  We have friends  who live in Somerset.  Try Welch.  Cannon River.

Wild Mountain is extremely family friendly... but they are more rides, than a lazy float... but STILL a blast.
